Today we specially remember Staff Sergeant John "Mac" McAleese, MM, 22 SAS who gave his all on the 26th August 2011 when he suffered a heart attack in Thessaloniki, Greece. SSgt McAleese was famous for his part in the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980 when he was seen, by millions on live television, with members of his team, Blue Team, placing an explosive charge on the front first floor balcony of the Embassy prior to the assault. SSgt McAleese also served in the Falklands and in Northern Ireland . His son, Paul, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009. John McAleese, MM, was 62 years old.
