right techys,. heres an slight update on the situation
he is running the linux OS on the laptop, and the Android OS on his phone.
the laptop will pick up the wireless signal from his phone and will show that it is connected to it. but when trying to open the web browser (firefox) it just seems to hang while opening the page.
i am bringing my laptop to pitstop to make sure lees phone is giving the internet and just connecting to the wireless. if this works then we still have the problem if it doesn't then we know it is the phone.
i did try my phone but it was dying so couldn't really test it properly.
has anyone got any ideas.

Posting in the right thread may be a start.
We can take a look tonight - it may be something as simple as a setting on the pjone to enable internet passthrough, or it could be a case of setting the default gateway/DNS server on the laptop.
Could be a lot of things.

Nice - as a forum admin elsewhere I am all too aware of the prune/move/merge posts activities available to cover up errors
