Some times on the control amp (depending how high end it is) there setting on which speakers you want playing. Normal is default to all but may have changed. And the wires for the rear speakers might be making a bad connection. Just try the other wires.

it should have a test mode, were it tests all speakers one at a time.

I've only used an older system where a separate feed was needed for the rear speakers (not HDMI) - I found a set of splitter cables in Tandy I think, that simply split the Front L/R into two for the rear speakers as well. I have a feeling HDMI will not be the same

What model amp is it ? Do you have 7.1 speakers - 1 centre, 2 front, 2 side, 2 rear, 1 sub (like what I have) What are you using as a sound source (E.G. If it's sky hd then dolby digital sound is NOT transmitted via HDMI - you need a seperate digital optical connection) What sound output settings have you got in bR player?

ok - It is deffo capable of 7.1
apparently it has auto calibration with a mic - did you do that? and it should have a test mode where you can send white noise to each speaker to test - lookfor it in manual - test mode it will probably also have a setting where you tell it how many speakers of each type you have (E.G. front full range, rear small, middle small, centre full, Sub etc) you will need to find that bit and in there you can probably tweak the volumes by Db Also don't expect a lot of loud output from the middle or rear speakers - it's normally fairly quiet and enhances the main/sub speakers for effects only You can normally tell it they are working with the Dolby Digital intro on films and if you have some THX enabled films they normally come with a picture and sound calibration option too in the DVD menu Forgive me asking again - you do have 2 front, 1 centre, 2 side, 2 rear and a sub don't you? You should not need hdmi and optical for your setup - and you should probably only have the ampset to auto on hdmi too It may be in the output settings of the player, you might have to list what they are for us to suggest the best one.
