Try being my age mate... I'm going to loose my years no claims because my mum scraped someones car while driving my car... Because i'm the main policy holder on that car, even though it's a multicar policy, i'm the one whos insurance gets screwed.
At 18 it's hard enough to get no claims as it is but this is taking the pi55 to be honest. We offered to pay for any damage done to the car that was scraped but he said he has to go through the insurance and thats that.
Ohh, and my parents payed £2000 this year to insure me on my Focus... It's a complete rip off!

The funny thing is thats one of the cheapest quotes I got, we just renewed it automatically because I was in America at the time and my mum just renewed it instead of having the hassle of changing companies.

It is a rip off if your insurance costs twice as much as your car... And thats only TPFT because Fully Comp was £2600 =/ So I'm still not covered for those things above

Your insurance premium is based on the probability of you injuring others (including other passengers in your own car) /causing damage to property and that's derived mainly from your age and your claims history. I remember reading somewhere that the average 18 year old has a 1 in 4 chance of having an accident in any one year. Pretty frightening really.

Well, I would have 1 years no claims now but thanks to my insurance company and the one of the guy my mother scraped in a car park, i'll be loosing my first years no claims just as I earned them. I wasn't even in the damn country at the time, I was in America... And yet i'm the one who has to suffer by getting screwed by insurance companies because the guy won't let us just pay for any damage done to the car? He can eat sh1t. If I ever get the chance to speak to him i'll give him a right fking earful.

Personally, i dont feel i have the right to complain about insurance prices too much, as i choose to drive a high performance car.
Chandler, you dont really have the right to complain either, as your mum pays your insurance, so no-claims loss or not, it wont effect you (unless you plan to pay your parents back of course)
I feel sorry for the people who are struggling with other financial commitments, and dont have much expereance with driving, there the ones who get completly shafted by the insurance industry

I have the right to complain because in a few years when I earn my own living and have to start paying my parents back, plus pay for my own insurance it'll take a big chunk of my earning away. Plus i'll be paying more for insurance because i've lost a years no claims...

You are actually in a really lucky position, most people at your age would be over the moon with your situation re the insurance thing, not complaining wanting to a bloke an earful for making a fully legitimate claim, i know if someone scratched either of my cars, theres not a chance in hell that i would do anything other than go through the insurance, its not worth the hassle and arguing on prices etc.
Look at it this way, the amount your loosing in no claims, is saved by having an interest free parent loan. If you tot up the amount you owe, over the length of time for complete payback, and times it by an interest rate (as any bank or loan company would charge) then youll see that years no claims is eaten up in no time!

My biggest gripe is this £35 admin charge to change a single detail on the policy. Even the girl at Hasting said its a fee for typing in 3 lines. So by my maths :
30 seconds typing = £35 ... So that's the equivalent of £4200 per hour.
