After stripping down my 125 ive realised my current tools do the job but only just, after some recommendations of decent quality but not ridiculously priced tools.
Im aware you pay for what you get some im not bothered about spending a decent amount on them as long as they will last!
So any recommendations of makes and a rough guide of whats needed for a decent overall maintennance set would be appreciated

Machine Mart and Clarke tools. Never had any problems with their stuff. It just depends on how often you are going to be using them.
Snap-on are great, if you can justify the price and are using them as more of professional tool than a tinkering toy.

Snap on for sure if you have money and use them a lot.....for good budget tools for the general user Halfords do a good proffesional range that are guaranteed.

halfords stuff i find expensive at times,.. when you can spend little more and get lifetime warrenty for snap on stuff
my piece would be your ratchets sockets and stuff you will use all the time buy snap on that way you don't go out of pocket when they break.
stuff that you will use as often as a fair weather rider using his bike in britain,.. buy cheap.
also if you buy a cheap ratchet you start to use it as a hammer and more often then not when you need it most,. boom it is brook. (it normally brakes after you have took the bolt or nut off and need it back on, thus causing a problem of transport of getting a new one.

Snap on all day long. But My 1/2" drive ratchet ( pride and joy ) was over £120 15 years ago but still looks like new. Id start with a 3/8" drive set first for the bike, complete with flexible ( round headed ) allen socket attachments. Flag a driver down on the road and go from there. They do interest free on the never never now too. I have a pal with a £7k tool chest that was empty when he bought it on credit, £7k just for a cabinet Snap on comes with a life time warrenty - if any chrome chips off they replace the tool free !

snap on warrenty,s arnt what they used to be i stopped buying there stuff a few years back when they wouldnt replace a pozidrive screwdriver shank and repair a 1/4 drive ratchet as id had them 10 plus years they said it was wear and tear and those particular parts were no longer available. allso the idea you can flag a snap on van down and walk off it with an armfull of tools is pushing it a bit youl have to be working at a garage thats either on his rounds or one he can add to his round then theres all the credit checks ect tbh i find theres an awfull lot of tool snobbery i stopped buying snap on and now have a mix of snap on, mac, facom ,and some cheeper stuff from kev mac and tbh i dont have any problems with any of it in fact i havent broken any tool in the last few years that i can recall.now losing them thats a different story

Snap on, facom etc are good but if you don't want a second mortgage halfords pro are really good (and also have a lifetime warranty iirc??).
Machine mart stuff is ok.
Couple of really handy tools for a bike are the t-bar allen sets and t-bar nut spinners.

I would suggest staying away from Draper tools. Cheap and soft, IMHO. Get some ball ended allen keys, life savers.

Craig, I know you are not local to Teesside, but don't forget about Cromwell Tools in Stockton.
