Got a Canon MP640 printer that we have had working but it stopped working back end of last year. Just cant get it to connect to the access point. The printer itself still works if you print from a USB stick or if you use it as a photocopier. Can anyone help please.

Can other devices still connect to the access point?

I take it it's a wireless printer? If so they generally connect to to the laptop, not the AP.
Those type of printers are the work of the devil and there's easier (more standard) ways to achieve what you want. In the meantime stick with a usb lead.

Hi there NurseGladys, have you tried turning it off.....and then turning it back on again! ;D Not just the printer though, the whole caboodle i.e. computer printer and most importantly the wireless router. Turn them all off at the wall for 30 seconds and then try again. It is often the router that is causing the problems and benefits from a reset now and again. If that does not work then it is probably best to go through the install and connection procedure that came with the printer again.

Thanks for the replies. The printer was set through the router which was recommended on the install disc. We have two computers - a laptop and a desktop (or whatever it's called). I've been having loads of problems with the desktop so have just changed it but neither of us could get the printer to work. I've tried switching everything off but with no luck, although I haven't pressed the reset button on the router Got a new computer so have reset everything and reinstalled the printer drivers onto my new computer but the computer can't find the printer so didn't finish the install I then cancelled the wireless LAN setup in the printer and tried to put the SSID & WEP codes back in but the printer can't find the access point. Do you think I should buy a cable for the printer and connect it to the computer?

yippee, hooray after months of no printer it has just burst into life ;D pressed the reset button on the router then lost all internet access Have had to re-enter the access point security key into both computers so now Ian can print from his laptop. I now just need the patience to try and install the drivers onto my computer. Think I'll leave that until tomorrow.
