Hi Everyone I have changed all my indcators to LEDs, and want to do away with the load resistors too. i know you can buy a relay but on some of the ebay listings it says you need 4 Im sure my bike only has the 1 relay for the indicators, is this correct? Thanks for answering my stupid question

Chris The load resistors are there so that the indicators flash corectly and do not flash too quickly or in some cases stay on. A relay is basically just a switch so would have no effect if used through the contacts. I would stick with the recommended Resistors or buy an equivilant ohm resistor block. Hope this helps.

Hope this helps. i thought when you bought a relay there was an attached resistance to it, therefore if you buy a relay with equivalent resistance to the resistors you already have then your good to go

Hope this helps. i thought when you bought a relay there was an attached resistance to it, therefore if you buy a relay with equivalent resistance to the resistors you already have then your good to go I understand what the resistors are for (to trick the indacator system into thinking that 2 bulds are flashing),. as i have 2 in for the rear,. but i was on the understanding there is a relay (spoke to auto electircs in thronaby and a relay isn't the correct terminology for it) but changes the flash rate so instead of have 4 Load resistors (which are of a bigish size) mounted all over you have a relay which does it for you. that was my thinking aswell Glenn,. but when i was looking at on ebay, it says "Each Indicator requires 1 unit" so to me that says i would need 4 units. but then another add says take out old relay and put this on in its place. im gunna order one that doesn't stat you need more then one,. and then see how that goes will give feedback once it arrives.

well i know the triumph ones i have came with a different relay to correct the flash rate

well the relay came,. although my bike had a different connection for a standard relay so, so an extending cable was made, and this does the job great, all indicators flash without any load resistors attached. from what i understand with the help of the eletronics department at work,. this is a pulsar unit and not a relay,. so will flash at the same rate all the time (unless it gone fault of course) here is the link for anyone who is interested www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130943858579?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649there are cheaper ones out there if you look.

Normal flasher relay is a bi-metal strip type with the load from the four bulbs making the relay work, the one you have bought is a timer and does not need a load. I had one on my hornet years ago.

Something worth noting with this type of "timer" is that it will flash at a predetermined rate no matter what the load. This is unlike a relay which will flash faster when the load is reduced. With a relay, if a bulb fails, the remaining indicators will flash quicker so giving you warning of an issue. This will not happen with the LED type "timer" and so it is worth checking that all your indicators are working on a more regular basis. Luckily LEDs fail much less often than regular bulbs but worth noting the difference all the same (loose wires etc). This type of "timer" relay replacement is a much better solution than the resistors on each indicator. These resistors can significant heat build-up (fairing melting type heat in some instances) especially if they are not sized correctly and you forget to cancel the indicators in good time after a turn. I have seen this happen so be warned.
