What do you mean NAV popups? Where and when are they popping up? Do you have NAV installed?

Comp wont even shut down when its there without holding reset button for 5 seconds. Ive never installed anything from norton ( even though their rotary F1 is great )

Sounds like you have either picked up some malware/spyware, or you are visiting dubious websites.
Go download Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy - run both and see what it gives you.

Sounds like a Virus or Spyware. If you have Norton uninstall it (it hogs system resources and isn't worth the money) Get Avast or AVG, they are free and then get Spybot S&D and Adaware for spyware, maybe Microsoft security essentials. They are all free and should keep you safe enough. You can only have 1 Anti Virus program running (they don't play well together) but you can have a few spyware ones as some of them seem to pick up stuff that others don't. If you hare having problems removing stuff start in Safe Mode (Press F8 when the computer is starting until a menu appears) and run them from there.

MS Security Essentials is only free if you are running a genuine copy of Windows. It's all I use these days, although I do have Spybot's resident registry monitor running at all times.

Very good, didnt even know this was free: www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security_essentials/default.aspxI've used AVG for years now, even paid for it originally but, fingers crossed, its always done the bizz. Try googling the error message you are getting - someone might have posted the easy answer to your problem. Good luck Mike.

OK - he has never installed Norton - therefore this is something else, probably adware or malware. Should be a relatively easy fix.

The chances are it's pre-installed hence why he has never installed it. A system restore will just re-instal it.
What version of windows are you running? And what is Norton detecting as malware?
