Very sad. I hope the chap recovers. The helmsley road is great fun but you need to be on your toes. Tip. Keep an eye open forjunction/crossing warning signs. Leave the overtake until after these hazards are passed. Make sure your in the right gear on bends and don't go in too hot. There is no TT trophy waiting for you in the market square! Be safe out there guys

Hope he recovers quickly. I did a YTS at Laskill Grange Farm many years ago which is on the blind corner Helmsley side of Chop Gate and during the summer the Air Ambulance landed so often for bikers that didnt make the corner for one reason or another we got to know them quite well, back then when we were kids it was all exitment whenever we heard it coming in but now it sends a chill through me everytime i hear of another accident on there, undoubtedly the most dangerous road in our area.

When are these Bikers going to learn, we often travell along that road but in the summer its full of Bikers speeding along on the wrong side of the road.I feel sorry for the poor lorry driver.Bikers should be banned from these roads.

Amazing...some folk have a bad image of biker's and nothing will change it, therefore, they assume the biker is always in the wrong...I despair at times !!!

Agree Meatey - I've reported his post, for what its worth.
Some will always use the Stokesley road as a race track and will continue to until their mindset or something more serious changes (e.g. the Law).
I'll admit, I used to enjoy the challenge of riding the road quickly but after learning it over many years an appreciation builds of the less safe areas where speed simply isnt appropriate.
Its been a while since I last rode it and tend to for enjoying the scenery these days.
It seems unlikely that a 48 year old BMW rider on an evening ride would be trying to set new lap record but that obviously isnt the perception the likes of Evening Echo readers and 'skyewalker' want to see.
(end of rant....for today)

i AGREE, but i do use the rd, and i am a r1 owner,i ride it hard thats why we buy these type of bike's, at the same time we have to learn the rd, and truth be known, if you dont know the rd you are at risk of crashing or over shooting the bends, i my self do open the throttle BUT only when i can and i think its safe to, the thing is 80% of the bikers who crash weather their own fault of not are generally new older riders or just new riders..... and it is a dangerous rd if you DONT know it... nothing will change... all they will do is police it even more..

now I have had to reply, why tell me that, here is my response, hope it is appropriate skyewalker, Maybe you should work for North Yorkshire Police collision investigation unit. Wow you seemed to have sorted this without any facts or statements. In times of austerity you would save a fortune. How very judgemental of you. May I ask have you ridden a motorcycle, have you ever done any advanced training to drive your car, or do you just assume you are a great driver. I am a member of the regions biggest motorcycle forums. www.teessidebikers.co.ukWe help promote post test training and rider safety. Most of our members have successfully completed this. Our region also as a large average of riders whom have completed, AIM/ROSPA, training. Motorcyclist are encourage to move to the other side of the road to extent their view, where applicable. Some also use defensive riding to protect themselves and road positioning. This to you without any understanding may look wrong or aggressive, it is not. However next time a car as an accident not accident, we should ban all cars of the roads, when a cyclist has an accident we should ban all cycles, some one falls from an horse we should ban all horses based on this theory the amount of time we have spent on the planet, there are no new accidents just repeats, what would be left, I know ban the wonderful, inventive lifeforms humans from the planet cos they just to damn clumsy.
