Well, finally sold my Blade and dug my old Zephyr out of my sons garage, flat battery so fitted anew one and she fired up!!! Trouble is it cuts out when revved, I limped home with the choke partly on which helped but it was still rough as a badgers rectum! does any one know what's occurring or can point me to someone that can fix it? Love this bike mind, I've had it for about 12 years and I'm really keen to get it back on the road for some serious riding

Are you using old fuel? Did you drain the carbs? How long was it stood for?

Check the wires to the coils to ... Manky connectors could show symptoms like this.

Dug out? if its been stood for a while I'd suspect carbs need cleaning due to gumming up, be cheeky and try a petrol treatment but stripping carbs down probably the way to go.

Thanks Lads, It's been stood for about 4 years and no I didn't drain the carbs 8-( We put a new battery on and it fired up straight away but very lumpy. I limped home, only a mile, but it reminded me what an underrated bike this is. (I only stopped using it because i bought a cheap 600 Blade, then the 900). I took the tank off because there was what I thought was a small weep but it was really badly rusted with a large hole and all the paint along the seam peeling off! I took it to Hartlepool Radiator and Tank repairs who are on with a complete fix as we speak. I think crunch101 is right, it will need a carb strip and clean, bit of a job for me, any experts out there? I'll try the petrol treatment first but the odds are against me.

Well, I got the refurbed tank back on, (£264), renewed all the petrol tap washers and gaskets and fitted a new air filter, took it to Crofton Court Motorcycles for its MOT, it passed. Still lumpy running but they advised a carb cleaner treatment which I threw in with a full tank of juice! Voila!!! It's worked a treat!

If I say I use redex would I be frowned at? I put half a bottle of that in every third full tank of fuel I put in.
