Hi all I need my chain on my M reg zx6r shortening by about two links and the wheel moving forword. Anyone know where will do it and how much. Cheaper the better. Funds are low at the moment.

I'm sure someone will come along in a minute to tell you that if you're considering taking links out because your chain has stretched over time then be very careful. I appreciate chains aren't cheap but neither is your health. Ultimately your bike your choice.

Ditto with above ... If the chains stretched that much its gonna be near end of life. A snapped chain while riding can write-off your bike or worse.

Find out how many links it should have and count how many you have

Think of this a different way, your chain has stretched because it has worn. Normally you can compensate for this wear through adjustment, however, when you can no longer achieve the correct adjustment in the normal way and the only way to do it is to remove links then your chain has WORN OUT.
Your chain needs replacing, it's a consumable.

Failing that shorten it and join Luke's "multiple down the road" club

Your bikes have chains? How quaint. Like Nick says it's a consumable. Once it's worn the constant heat and load cycles will cause tiny fatigue cracks and fractures. One of these may or may not cause a weakness that will give just as you go for third when accelerating hard. Don't forget to change both sprokets at the same time as well. You will be able to get a chain and sprocket kit specifically for your bike. Go for a quailty one - the price difference won't be huge but you'll get a lot better wear from it. DID are always a good bet. Some options www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycle/chain-sprocket-kits/bike/kawasaki/1995/zx6r-f1

Can you guarantee it won't snap Luke a bold statement I understand what you mean but to suggest that someone else does it without them being aware of the dangers is a bit silly lol I've had a chain snap on me and the damage to the bike is quite bad worse if you can't afford to repair it and that's if your lucky enough not to be hurt at the same time I applaud your willingness to help and if he still wants to do with all the facts I'll help as well lol

Split links are not the problem as I had one on a new chain (Bought wrong length) on a TLR torque monster and it was fine.
However Muzzasv, how gutted would you feel if Mich600 took your advice, the chain then let loose and took his foot off ?
Advice should be: "Stay safe and don't risk putting yourself and the bike down the road for a few quid, but you could just cut it if YOU want to risk it."
Just because you do unsafe things doesn't mean you should offer that as advice for others to do.
Thus ends the sermon. ;-)

So, let's look at it in an alternative way then.
My guess is that if the bike went into a repair shop, the only option would be to replace the chain as I'd guess that most, if not all qualified mechanics with a business would not perform the job as they would be putting their business and also their personal freedom in jeapordy.
If the worst thing happened, undoubtedly a mechanical examination would follow and the person who did this alteration may face prosecution.
A chain is a wear and tear consumable. If your pads were worn down to the metal would you Gaffa tape some cardboard onto them to stop them scoring the discs?
The chain is stretched so far it is worn out......

If it were a cg125 then I'd consider taking a link out, but on a superbike I'd treat myself to a new chain and sprocket kit
