Well lads that's why I want to be a biker. To be part of and go riding with helpful and friendly people. Thanks for all the advice and for the offer of help (luke). But the decision is out of my hands now as I have stupidly shown our lass this feed. And she's insisting I get a new chain and sprocket. So again thanks for all the help lads.

Mick, There's enough stuff out there already that wants to put you off your bike. Don't add to it by cutting corners/costs on important things on the bike. I've seen 1st hand what trying to save a few quid has cost when it all goes wrong. Like every forum in the world you will get good, bad and sometime idiotic advice. I live by one rule when it comes to bike bits and kit - How much is my life worth ? Is saving £30 worth the risk of a catastrophic off ? Take one good feeling from this : Your lass obviously likes you enough to be concerned for your safety ... Bless LOL

Well lads i have taken all the advice and a new chain and sprocket is in it's way. But apparently it comes with a soft link. Now being new to biking I honestly thought it came ready to put on. But my cousin and his mate who are both mechanics ( after pissing them selves laughing at my lack of even basic bike knowledge ) informed me all chains would come like this. So again I'm back to square one. I need a riveting tool. I know I'm new and have not met any of you yet but I would not pull up at the pitstop on my bike with the chain the way it is. ( sounds like a train ). That said would anyone be willing to lend me the tool for the day. My cousin is also a biker and has the stands and will fit it for me he lives in billingham. Chain only ordered last night so may take about a week to come I'll post again when it arrives then if someone will lend me the tool will arrange to pick it up sometime after that. Thanks
