Basically... The forks on my GS500 are nackered! And even when they're in top notch condition they are really bad performing forks... Soooo... I am looking to replacing them with different ones all together apart from the yokes.
I am looking to get a list of forks that fit into my yokes, was wondering if you guys could measure the diameter (or circumference, whatever is easier for you) to give me a rough idea if there are any that I can wack in.
Probably going to have to he no upside down forks but dual discs would be done.
Later today I'll give mine a measure too.
Thanks in advance chaps!

yours should be 37mm and to be honest the only forks you will get that are that size appear to be anything from late 70's to 1990 you would be best off just getting some replacement gs ones and overhaul them as changing the forks involves more than just the yoke diameter, depending on the length of them too it will alter rake and trail and you will have to get the right wheel to go with the forks as well as the right brakes and mud guard and im guessing your speedo will be driven by the front wheel which complicates things even more. if your forks arent leaking mind then just get yours overhauled and see if you can get some new springs

I changed my forks recently from a 89 cbr600f to a 99 cbr600f. I ended up having to change the whole front end, including yokes, wheel, mudguard and brake calipers. Sometimes it's not as simple as you would like it to be

I know that RGV forks fit right on, but they're bloody expensive.
Thing is with my forks is that the seals and bushes need replacing and the non genuine seals are apparently really rubbish, heard people who have struggled to get 1500 miles out of them. Suzuki genuine ones cost almost double then there's fitting and buying progressive springs to make the forks a little better AND some mug has painted them very poorly so I might aswell buy some replacement ones

the seals are a piece of piss to do just make sure you spend at least 20 quid on them and they will be fine painting them will cost about 10 quid 15 at the most and progressive springs will be about 100 quid whereas if you do a fork swap you could be looking at 100 quid for the front wheel to fit the new forks alone all in all i reckon a fork swap would cost you at least 400 quid

Depending on what forks I can fit I don't intend on spending more than 150! There's a lot of front end set ups on ebay around that price. 400 quid though?! Naaah! The bike in its current state os probably worth about that.
Suppose I should really post a thread about the bike, I did with my last bike, Kawasaki GPX600R, but that would have been almost a year ago.

Front end but does that include calipers etc? as thats where it can get bloody expensive. I considered doing a 748 swap onto my zxr 400 and the costs is insane

Fork legs, wheel and brake. If I were to replace the lot with gs500 parts it wouldn't cost more than 100. I'm not after anything too flash

if you intend to just get a gs set of forks the same as yours that are in better condition then yeah go for it but as you stated there, forks wheel and brakes there is more to it than just that lol also need mudguard need to fcuk around getting the rake and trail back to original spec which doesnt take much but still a piss on then like i say about the speedo drive i highly doubt i bike of that year and size is driving off the front sprocket it will be off the front wheel which is more money to sort out. the best advice i can give you and im sure milky c will agree to is just get gs500 forks that are in better nick but first get someone with a bit more knowledge to have a look at yours because you may be able to save them for next to nout

Yeah I think that's the way I'll be going. I'll just load them up with slightly thicker oil and loose some weight Now I've just gotta fix my mudguard, buy some new brake pads and de-oil my disc and caliper. Any de greaser you can recommend?
