Has anyone got a battery charger that I can have a loan of? Finally got the parts to fix Lex#1 after she was written off, put her back together and tried to fire her up. Turned over quite happily but wouldn't fire. Checked all the usual suspects, in Neutral (check), Killswitch (ffs, how did that get switch off?!) (check), fired her up, ran for a few seconds and died again. Fiddled with the choke, couple of more attempts, same happened. Kept trying and eventually the battery coughed, farted and died. Then I realised that I hadn't turned the fuel tap back on after it had come back from the garage. Schoolboy error! Anyway, I need a charger, if no-one has one that I can loan, where's best to buy one as I suspect this won't be the last time I do something stupid!

Aldi sell them quite often. Does both car and bike. Ibought one a few months ago, £15. My pops got onemore recently and a mate also, who as actually used his to charge his battery from flat. I havent used mine yet, but mate said his worked fine. I think Lidl maydo them also. You are welcome to use mine also, live in Thornaby.

Thanks, Lads. I'll have a look in Aldi and Lidl tomorrow, see if either has one. If not, I'd like to collect one for loan before teatime tomorrow, if that's possible.

Well, that was close. Got the battery off, in the house on charge, shifted some stuff around in the garage and, now that I've fitted the replacement handlebars and front indicators, managed to squeeze the old Lex into the garage alongside her replacement. No sooner was it 'job done' than it started snowing! Hope I get chance to fire her up and take her over to the Dormans Car Park in the morning just to give her a test ride. Sods Law says I'll have everything sorted, ready to sell, just as we get two feet of snow!

I wouldn't charge a battery in the house, if it is near anybody, as it gives off hydrogen and can explode when charging, if an ignition source is near, I have seen it happen. The whole of the top of the battery casing was blown off and battery acid was everywhere, it needs to be a well ventilated area. The battery that exploded on me was caused by a new battery being charged by a voltage regulator that was overcharging and the hydrogen gasses came into contact with a hot exhaust on a Sunbeam Stilletto that was positioned immediately beneath the battery - poor design .

Thanks for that, bowman. I had a stark choice, in the garage, with both bikes, or in the spare room, indoors. We have no kids, so not too much of a problem, and we have a spare room where we don't let the cats in. Just had it on the worktop in the kitchen during the day, where I could keep an eye on it, then moved it to the spare room when we went to bed. Seemed like the safest option. It's stood in a metal tray, with the window open, just in case it decides to get leaky. Sometimes, it's a case of the lesser of two evils.

All done!
Thanks for the offers of help with this and to Clive (regnarts) for the use of his charger. Got the bike to fire up, blow out the cobwebs and gave it a cursory run up the alley to see how it handled and that all the buttons and levers do what they're supposed to. A few small jobs (little bit of superglue on a fairing) and a good clean and polish, and I'm ready to sell. I'll be putting it on here a day or two earlier than it goes on eBay. I'll also pop over to the Pit Stop and see if I can get it on the wall there.
Anyone know of other good places to advertise a bike for sale, locally?
