Noticed you can get 190 Dunlop qualifiers for £59.99 from MP . Sounds cheap like , was thinking of replacing my 180 but would like to know if i would benefit from such a change . More rubber means more grip in my book but is this the case . Cheers

It's not as simple as it looks. You need to bear in mind the "aspect ratio" is the percentage of the width. So a 180/55 is 180mm wide and 55% of 180mm tall. A 190/55 will be taller. As will a 60 or a 65. This in turn means a larger rolling radius. That in turn will affect clearance inside the swing arm, expansion under rotation, contact with any hugger, etc. There may be compound and/or construction differences that you may notice, but the extra width you wouldn't notice.

Could result in any of the above mentioned otherwise ?

dont listen to clint he doesnt know what hes talking about, the possibilty of it catching something is there, but is very unlikely. as for handling the 190 will turn quicker because of the higher profile you will get with it. im guessing it is a 190/55/17, they have started making a 180/60/17 now which supersedes the 180/55 which will give the same profile as a 190/55 and a better contact patch

Making yourself look like a cock yet again! He's crashed more bikes than he has rotten teeth. Luke, I've forgotten more than you will ever know. Let me correct you also.....A 180 profile will turn in quicker than a 190. Come back when you really do know something and not assume(wrongly) all the time Oh and maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but tyre profiles are selected when designing and considering suspension and settings....so change the tyre profile, change the way the bike handles too!

Interestingly RiDE have an article on this very topic. This is what Continental Tyres brand manager and And 'Spidey' Peck, deputy chief riding coach at the California Superbike School examine what happens when you change the diameter or width of a tyre. If clicking that doesn't work here's a direct link which should be big enough to read.

Interesting point on wear. It may explain why I'm getting less miles out if my 160 rear tyre (600cc) than I did out if my 180 rear on the 1000cc

Oh and keep the pound Luke for putting towards some wider tyres!

Its a no brainer really. Stick to manufacturer's recommendations Honda or Yamaha etc didn't spend all this time developing the bike on say 180/55 for you to change it and expect better handling on a 190/60 or what ever it is your after.
Manufacturer's recommendations and you cant go wrong.

Well said Mike, but some fools on here think they should be working for the likes of Dunlop or Pirelli ......ie Gobshite Luke Clint - can't believe you gave me such a hard time over my 'Irish (crap) windup.. You must bleed £1 coins. How's that mate? Everyone knows Luke is a gobshite! I don't particularly like the lad and I know the feeling is mutual, it's no secret but hey who said everyone needs to get on with each other just cos they ride bikes.......no windup! The problem I have is people who are constantly looking for a bite, to the point where that's all they do any they know who they are and what I mean. Wheel nut is another. He will argue just to oppose anything someone says for the craic. I'm afraid that wears thin after a while though and I have no time for the likes. Speak my mind yes and why not? Those I don't like know so and no why but I can't be called two faced like many others. I have many good friends on here and there are also a few cocks. Some would say that Im a cock and that's cos I don't tolerate shite. Those people tend to speak nicely to my face and slag me off behind my back, be a man I say. Life is too short to be bothering with those who try and make it difficult for you so fcuk them off.........think I've cleared that one up lol

You've stopped taking your meds again haven't you? This is a discussion forum. For discussing stuff. It's what the internet is for(that, and pictures of kittens). People have different views on things and that is a good thing. If everyone came on and just posted 'I agree' it would become a very boring place very quickly. That doesn't mean it has to descend into insults or can't be light hearted though. Hope you come back.

"If everyone came on and just posted 'I agree' it would become a very boring place very quickly." for the forum yes but if this was applied to a marriage it would be utopia.
