Hey up folks, I stumbled across the site via an old article on the Gazette's site while I was reading up on the (in)famous Helmsley TT route to add to our mapping system. Nice, friendly forum you've got going on - thought I'd drop in and say 'hi' - hopefully see a few of you out and about some time. Cheers James @ MotoGoLoco

Stay Safe - Frank You're a very kind man Frank, thanks (I knew I recognised that username from somewhere!). Hope you're keeping well? Thanks for the warm welcome guys, much appreciated. As for bikes, I'm a sane Tiger 800 rider in amongst a squad of GS/RT owners (the only thing I have close to an ally in the office is Jim's Multistrada, and well that hardly counts does it?!)

Statistics show 48 casualties recorded over a three-and-a half year period, 20 of these were motorcyclists or their passengers. Less than half's not that bad Given the quantity of bikes who use that road, how regularly, it's reputation, and the trouble with those bloody pheasant/grouse/bird-thingies... They're bloody suicidal! Welcome in, anyhow, Jimmy! There's plenty of opportunity to get on rides out with guys who can show you a good route or two to add to the ol' site, buddy... Unfortunately, unless you consider going round in circles, up dead-ends, regular wee stops, and going very slowly to be the ingredients of a good day's riding, I'm not one of them :\ WTG flying the flag for Britain, instead of buying one of Jerry's more popular alternatives *thumbs up*

To make up 40% of the casualties is way over represented. And I doubt very few of them are down to animal strikes......

I think the ratio of cars to bikes would be more than 5% to bikes. Give 'em the benefit of the doubt with the animals! But I can't see many cars crashing on there. Seldom see a car going quick enough over it. I suppose, since it's if casualties and not just people involved in incidents, there'll be less car drivers who've been hurt but still been in accidents, because we're more vulnerable.

Seldom see a car going quick enough over it. Probably the point ..... Well, winter's a given, but taking into consideration how many bikers do use that road - in comparison to many other roads, especially ones with that kind of "reputation" - it is heavily favoured by people of a two-wheeled persuasion. I mean if the cars aren't going very quick (which they seem to not be when I've been going over), but the bikes are there's gonna be more casualties, especially when the likelihood of a casualty (the figures we're talking about here) is increased exponentially when it comes to bikes than cars. Doesn't mean shit hasn't gone down and people haven't crashed their cars, just they haven't had an ickle booboo Soooooo I'm not massively surprised by those figures, but that's my opinion
