I am sad to hear that 56-year-old Martin Dixon from the Billingham area was travelling on a motorcycle along the A179 Easington Road in Hartlepool, adjacent to Sheraton Court Care Home, when the collision happened at around 7.05pm on Monday 28th November
He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Martin leaves behind a wife and two children. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
Martin was riding for the Blood Run EVS and had been for a number of years he was a true gentleman he will be sadly missed. R.I.P. Martin

He was a lovely guy. Had the pleasure of working with him a few times over the last couple of years. He'll be sorely missed, not just by the Bloodrun.

Had an e mail telling me about this whilst I was away. Very sad news...
Martin was a nice bloke, and a competent rider. I did his RoSPA test back in July.
What's hard to comprehend was that his journey was being made to benefit someone else's life.

Apparently there is now a Just Giving page in aid of Martin, sadly I have no other details

This is from his son, Martin Jnr. "As many of you will know my dad sadly died while on his bloodbike duty on Monday night in Hartlepool. Everyone who knew my dad knew that he would have never turned anyone away, would always help anyone with anything. As the chairman of Bloodrun said: "The embodiment of the unsung hero". He absolutely loved volunteering for Bloodrun EVS. He always had his name down for as many shifts as my Mam would let him have! There was always a smile on his face when he got ready for his first call of the night. He took great pride in his riding abilities with the highest RoSPA Gold training standard. While he wasn't out on the bike, many will haven own him from St. John's school as caretaker. Where again he did anything to help anyone. As a family we are still deeply shocked at what has happened, but he wouldn't want us to just sit around upset. It's a massive help to hear of how many people have only good memories and comments about him. He would be loving all of the attention as well! His legacy will live on with the huge amount of people's lives he affected for the better. We are aware of the JustGiving page and as most of the funeral arrangements are covered, any donations will be passed on to Bloodrun EVS. RIP Dad" And a link to the Justgiving page. www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/tracy-wing
