UPDATE:
Police in Durham are appealing for witnesses after a female motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car.
The rider was travelling through the village of Stainton Grove at 1.10pm on Saturday when the incident occurred.
The 49-year-old was thrown from the Honda motorbike after it was in collision with a Rover 218.
The woman, from Shotton Colliery, sustained serious head and back injuries, as well as a punctured right lung.
She was airlifted to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where her condition is described as critical but stable.
The 81-year-old female driver of the car, from Barnard Castle, was unhurt in the incident.
The road was closed for around two hours on Saturday to allow for the vehicles to be recovered and for police to make an initial examination of the scene.
Anyone who was in the area and saw the incident is asked to contact the force's collision investigation unit on 0191 375 2159.
