I tend to speak as I find , in my own unique way, as we have found out on many threads here.
Its good that you like M + S , However I VEX them and once VEXED its hard to be unvexed.
It was their own doing many years ago and I havent forgot, but I said, " I will never buy a bike from them " and I have voted with my feet since and never have.
The little tale goes back to about 92-93 ish , just when the Yamaha YZF750 ( 0W01 replacement came out ). At that time I was a snotty nosed kid with plenty money and I NEEDED one. I turned up at their Newcastle branch ( I think thats all they had back then) , in Wayne Rainey leathers ( which were NOT cheap ) and asked for a go on one.
The sales chap looked down his nose at me asked what I was on at the time , which just happened to be a Yamaha FZR1000 EXuP which was a few months old Upon hearing this he raised an eyebrow to his salesperson ( girls ) mate and says " bring it here son and you can have a go then." He obviously thought , " he aint got one of them and or there aint an insurance co in the land will insure this young git on one of them "
Well I did and there was.
A few moments later the FZR was presented and I was then told by the rather blushing salesgit that I couldnt have a go " just because "
Our mainjeted Hero told him where to park his YZF and anyother bike from then til the end of oil.
KENS , managed to swap much of my hard earned for the YZF and I delighted in reminding the salesperson of this. The sad truth is that M + S have now bought Kens , but still call it Kens ( maybe in an attempt to con me back ? )
I now delight in sitting on their bikes in the showroom, pawing them with greasy fingers, asking for them to be wheeled in and out then say I dont want it " just because."
So M + S remain VEXED , however their socks, porkpies and undies are OK.
PADGETTS of Batley .........now thats a proper bike euphorium , its better than going to the bike show. Their stock is incredible. They even have a new , unused Yamaha TZ 750 two stroke. Worth a ride out to thats for sure.

a few years ago i did a charity ride for the air ambulance, this included all the triumph dealers, M+S Newcastle(are they still triumph dealers?) didnt even reply to several emails and a hand written letter letting them know what i was doing and a request for a tshirt or somthing to auction off after the ride! even when we still popped in on our way up to scotland, and 'reminded' them what we were doing, they still fobbed me off and said they were too busy and would post us a tshirt!!! it never turned up! quite sad considering triumph dealers from all over the country made us feel welcome and all supplied us with stuff to auction off! btw, at the end of it we raised over £3k for the air ambulance!

[/quote] Here, Here MJM and well said ---Padgett's established almost 50 years family run business with Padgett's now selling to third generation customers.
New and used motorcycles, parts, accessories, clothing, anything for the motorcyclist including insurance and CBT.
Padgett's are one of the UK's few independent dealers selling Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Aprilia and Peugeot.
Visit the motorcycle village in Bradford road, batley west yorkshire.
Longest established Yamaha dealer in the UK.
Honda Japan established Padgett's as first Honda HRC Service Shop in the world outside Japan.
Suzuki appointed Padgett's to build the famous RGB Suzuki race machine at their headquarters in Batley.
All of this adds up to a great pedigree and provides increased customer services with the backing of the main Japanese manufacturers.
Furthermore, Padgett's are the only independent race team competing at the highest BSB level in the UK with support from Honda and winning the BSB Supersport Championship. Your experience at M&S was at a time that Yamaha were proclaiming that all of their dealers had been "given" a YZF750 for trials / promotion to their customers and the thick git who refused your right was blind to the obvious that you had a lot of bike-buying years to go. The afore mentioned T.G. still "works" there and I just shake my head when I see him and think to myself that he wouldn't work in an iron lung.
HOWEVER -- I also remember you trying / sitting on a 916 at M&S's Durham branch and when you had it pulled out yourself and perched yourself on it you asked me to hold the rear tyre upright so that you could put both feet on the pegs and get yourself tucked away -- chin on tank The Durham sales person then nearly fell of his desk chair and came lolopping over proclaiming "Hoi ! thats not the way that you ride these" I remember your polite reply including "what the ---- are they for then" and "are they for shopping trips"
It's a poor salesman who doesn't recognize a buyer and therefore they deserve to sell nowt !!
I second you motion MJM --- go to Padgets ---- the 1 hour ride out is worth it AND if they don't have it --- it doesn't exist. Please feel free to use your magifying glass ---'cos there are some priceless bikes on here that you haven't seen before and you won't see elsewhere !

I had a Tiger 955 and the electronic warning light came on. The manual said not to ride the bike and contact your dealer immediately. I phoned M&S who said that it was nothing and they could book me in in 3 weeks time. So I phoned A1 Moto York who said take it to them the next day where they diagnosed a seriously faulty black box and said that the bike was in a dangerous state, could have cut out at any time and should not have been ridden. Needless to say, I would never give M&S a penny, which is a shame as I really fancy a Guzzi

Just learnt today, M + S Durham def shut for good.
M + S Newcastle have LOST their YAMAHA and HONDA franchise so the Yamaha showroom is now shut too.
Good enough for them , shame for Yam and Honda.
M + S still make good porkpies and socks though !
