Alan I'd go for an iPhone everytime. There are millions of free apps and if she ever gets bored of it the resale values are fantastic. With the 3GS you'd probably get your money back on it now they've been out for a few years. Plus iPhones rarely go wrong in much the same way as Macs whereas windows Based technology often fails. Just my two penneth.

swore i would never get an i phone but gave in and got one 18months back now i cannot imagine how i ever got by without it so easy to use and never failed me i have the 3gs and when i went to upgrade to the 4 the shop offered me £140 for it in part ex so you can't go wrong as for pay as you or contract i don't see a difference i have 1 daughter on one with a contract and 1 one o2 on pay as you go £15 a month and he gets loads of free mins and text infact he is at £30 credit after 2 months as he just does not use the free mins and text

get the iphone. i had a iphone 4 and wanted a change so got a samsung galaxy s2(alot better spec than iphone 4) so wish i didnt do it, missing my iphone. and if you want a network go GiffGaff. its pay as you go. £10 get you unlimited texts, unlimited internet. 250 minutes. and free GiffGaff to GiffGaff calls and texts. they run on o2 signals so a o2 phone or unlocked phone takes their simcards. just a thought

IMHO I prefer my android phones, cheap and easy to use, still a lot of apps to be had for free
also I have never liked iphone, even though just like itouch I can't get away wit the keys and my eat thumbs for typing and that the same reason I don't like blackberry either, but I do like the look of that one Andy has shown

After owning a Iphone, HTC (with windows on) and a blackberry torch
I'd choose blackberry all day long, but its all about personal preferance, i love blackberries keyboards.
Cant go wrong with iphone or blackberry, stay clear of windows limited apps
