Hope someone may be able to help;
I'm wanting to set sky up in my Den upstairs.
I've got sky+HD in my living room, multi room in the kitchen and I have a spare sky+ box that I'd like to put upstairs. Is it do able?
Not bothered about paying a subscription so if it is do able, would I be able to take my multi room card and use it upstairs?
Hopefully ta
Nick.

It depends. One way would be to use a 'magic eye' which costs about 20 quid and consists of a sky + remote and a receiver. You will need to run coax between your den and main sky + box. You don't need to use the third box doing it this way.
The limitation with this is that what's on on the main box will be on in the den. It can be controlled from the den via the magic eye though.
If you want to use the third box you will need to run coax from the LNB (sky dish) to where you want the third box ( you'll need a quad LNB though). As far as i know the cards are paired to the box so you'll need another multi room subscription from sky at another 10 per month. This will give you full independant sky to the third box. It's worth just trying the card to see though.
On the iphone so cant't do linkys but google 'magic eyes' and you'll find them quick enough.

Cheers Andy,
I want to be independent of main TV. Can't put magic eye onto the multi room set, it has to go on main box which is why I thought of this as an option.

Lol - try swapping the box in the kitchen with your spare one and see if the card works in it. If it does then run the coax to the den from the LNB.

you will need the spare box pairing up with the multi room card to swap it about, the best way to do it is to call sky up and say your multi room box has broken and u have purchased anothwer1 and would like it pairing up

If you dont need to change channel in the den then just run coax to the tv in den to any box that only you can change channels on

Thanks for help guys, i think i'll bite the bullet and see if i can find a local engineer and see how much it will cost............... and indeed if it can be done. If not, stuff it, i'll just stick a free view box on it. Wish i was techie minded!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you've currently got a main box in the living room with a magic eye to the bedroom and a multi room in the kitchen? If so and you can live with having rhe same channel on in the kitchen as is on in the den then I would take another magic eye out of the kitchen to the den. You'll need to run some coax from the kitchen to den though and you'll need to turn on rf2 output on the sky box. If you didn't want to take it from the kitchen then you could take another magic eye feed from the living room via an amplifier, but that would mean having the same channel on in the bedroom, living room and den albeit all independently controlled. Some more info www.sky-remotes.com/setup-sky-magic-eye.shtmlYou'll need one of these www.sky-remotes.com/sky-magic-eye.shtmlOne of these www.sky-remotes.com/sky-hd-remote.shtmlEnough coax to reach from the kitchen to den (normally easier to go round an outside wall), and a pack of coax plugs. www.sky-remotes.com/coaxial-cable.shtmlGive me a shout if you're stuck - I'll pop in as I'm passing and give you hand.

Cheers Andy,
No magic eyes in at moment and the idea is to keep it independent of lounge. Can't run it on magic eye from multi room box as there's no rf2 out.
Mr Puerile has recommended an installer who may be able to help.

I was under the impression that Sky+ required a dual LNB as it carries dual channels and more bandwidth for HD? In which case, the likelyhood is that he has a quad LND installed on his dish already, but this will probably be fully employed with the main + box and the multiroom. If so, the third box can't be installed without replacing the LNB for a 6.
Check the number of coax cables coming out of the dish - 3 or 4 and you are kind of knackered.
