I think there are a few people on the forum currently under training and looking at getting there first bits of motorcycle clothing.
I have just returned from my 3rd DAS lesson ( 4.5hrs in total ) so i would like to give my initial thoughts on my kit.
Im 6'2 athletic build and a size 10 Hoof...
After weeks of researching and asking questions i decided to go for Textiles, that way they can be used in all conditions and ill always have them for the future (winter riding maybes)...
I went for the RST Ventilator II Jacket and jeans (Jacket £140, Jeans £120) as i think they have a sporty look. I originally ordered a Large jacket but i needed an eXtra Large. I have no idea how they compare to other Brands but they are very comfortable, warm in cold weather and cool and airy in warm weather when you take the lining out. Haven't used them in the rain yet but I'm confident they would perform well in the wet.
My helmet is the SHOEI XR1100 which i think is fantastic, i paid £360 for it from the leather shop in Newcastle (the shop at the top of that steep street with all the bike shops on) 360 was only slightly cheaper than full price but i was given a £50 black visor to go with it. Its a cool looking helmet with the Black visor on, and the 'pin lock' visor means NO misting up at all. I wore it on my CBT in torrential rain, and terrible conditions, my instructors helmet misted up and mine was crystal clear. I had all my vents on it open today and there was a constant breeze blowing round my head. Its also very quiet (at 70MPH anyway)...
My boots are the TCX, i went for this make as i think they specialize in boots so i assumed they must be good. I'm a size 10 but i ordered a 10.5 which fits perfect. They are also WP but i haven't tested them in the wet yet.
My Gloves are RST, they are a discontinued model so they were a bargain. I think they might be too small though, as i get a pain in the muscle under my thumb. But i think this could be just were I'm gripping the handlebars too tight, 20 to 70mph in a low gear is like holding onto a rocket ;D
I know 4.5hrs isn't much of a test for my kit but these are just my initial thoughts...
