I've an old garmin that I've updated a couple of times. Can't remember the link but think I did it via the website. Had a code for the first update to do it free and have had to pay for the others since.
Has to be plugged into the pc to do it, and there was a set of menus to chose when on there. Beena while though.
Think they do some now with free lifetime updates.

My Garmin Zumo 660 will be 2 years old in 2013.
The current Map Info is CN Europe NT 2011.10.
I've been looking at a 2013 GB Road Atlas and have noticed that there are some new roads which are not on MapSource (PC) or the unit itself. We were in Spain in 2012 and there was lots of new roads being built.
Looks like it's time to "bite the bullet" and update my maps.
I've heard some horror stories about folks attempting to update their maps and enter into this myself with some trepidation.
Having spoken to Garmin, they have sent me some instructions to follow. I need to purchase a SD card for greater memory/storage space and pay for a lifetime update.
Has anyone had any experience of updating their maps to help me along the way, thanks.

I paid about £60 for life time up-dates, that is for the satnav NOT your life time If you purchase the maps you need to down load them on to your HD and transfer them to a Sd card if your satnav is not capable of installing it to it's internal memory, as maps get bigger in size the satnav can not handle the new bigger sizes so a 4/8 gig card SD is recommended , download the new map after you have paid for it on to your HD also download the software Garmin life time installer and map installer and put the SD card into your Garmin Satnav and connect it to the computer by USB use mapinstaller to update your maps to the Garmin connected PC by selecting the regions of Europe/ world ect you want to install on your SD card BUT it takes hours for it to install to it.... don't make the mistake of putting the SD card to a card reader as I did to speed things up it will only corrupt the data to the card and you will only have to start all over again it is a laborious task but once done back it up on your system for future reference

Thanks Clive, your reply helps to confirm what to do.
I now know that I will get the software required after parting with my money.
Looks like all the info goes to your PC and then you transfer it to your Sat Nav unit.

Hey Regnarts, I hope you told Dayglow that your sat nav routes everything through Richmond.

Looks like I have successfully updated my PC and Sat Nav.
Bought a SD card from Tesco and paid Garmin for a Lifetime Update.
Wasn't too difficult, took about 4 hours to complete.
Roll on 2013, found some new roads to ride on.

In 2011, Brittany Ferries started operating a service with the vessel Cap Finistere between Bilbao & Portsmouth.
It's taken Garmin 3 years to recognize that this service now operates from a new terminal in Bilbao.
The Garmin 2014.40 maps show the ferry route from the old terminal and the 2015.20 maps show the new terminal.
How update are the updates?

Don't worry, it's all a plan to confuse the Russians when they invade the rest of Europe, like a modern day version of world war 2, when road signs were removed or swapped.

Use google maps / street view to double check your final destination points, just don't rely on "Emily" to know it all

Good call John, I'm told the last few miles of ANY journey, no matter how small are when the MOST attention needs to be made...
Tyre software is also really good - kind of combines Garmin/Tomtom & Google.
Finally, considering I've just bought a 64GB usb3 stick for £15 and memory is so cheap, I wonder how long it will be before Google get into the SatNav market.

If in doubt, get the co-ordinates out.
