Well after Dayglo's thread about recovery and breakdown cover. I thought i would try do pros and cons of each company that got mention. I have been through and got a quote from 5 different companies to get the closet for each other which involve : - Personnel Cover (this covers you in any vehicle) Roadside Assistance (this will try get you back on the road) National Recovery (recovers you to any destination in the UK of your choice) Auto Aid these are the cheapest at £38, This has extra to what was mentioned above with no extra. The only thing they ask is you pay for the recovery then they will pay the cost back within 14 days. can be a bad thing if you ain't very good with money. Motoring Assist I feel these offer the same as Auto Aid at a Little extra cost of £67.45 They Offer a lower cost cover and a higher cost cover. Also they offer joint or family cover. Same again they ask for you to pay and claim the money back. Green Flag This cover is FROM £45. they offer higher and lower level at different costs. These don't cover bikes and only covers you for the vehicles that are on the policy. RCA The price of this cover is £74. can add extras for an extra cost or take away the recovery and the cost will come down. The AA The price of this cover is £71. can add and take away selected extras. They also offer a part and cover - this means if your vehicle breaks down and is in need of a repair you pay and excess of £35 and you can claim up to £500 worth of parts and labour costs. and claim up to 5 times within the year. (don't think bikes can come under this) If anyone knows any other companies that want adding then please speak up.

You've also got to be wary of Breakdown/Recovery as they sometimes do not cover recovery after an accident.

Green Insurance offers basic roadside cover for £17.80. However, use the code 'EXPERT' to get a further 10% off when you buy online, taking this down to £16.02 (you'll need to enter the code via the link above to get it). The offer's scheduled to end on 1 February 2012. It's for vehicles that are five years and younger and breakdowns further than a mile from your house. It includes an hour's roadside labour, after which your vehicle will be towed to the nearest garage.
Green Insurance's Euro Recovery policy includes roadside repair, onward recovery, home start, and up to 60 days of cover in Europe over the policy (max 31 days cover per trip). However, you can use the code 'EXPERT' to get a further 10% off when you buy online, taking this down to £52.97 (you'll need to enter the code via the link above to get it). It's scheduled to end on 1 Feb 2012. It covers vehicles aged up to 10 years old at this price, though watch out as it jumps to £99.85 at full price if your vehicle is 11 years old or more.
Quoteline Direct's £59 policy is particularly good if you've got a vehicle that's over 10 years old (though it only covers vehicle under 16). It includes roadside repairs, home start, onward recovery, and more. Its vehicle-based policy covers any insured driver of the vehicle, and allows up to 60 days abroad per year, for up to 31 days per trip.

The good thing about the AA is that you are covered rather than the bike, so if you are a member you are covered when driving your car, your bike(s), or even if a passenger in someone else's car. And you get 25% off if you are an IAM member. There again it ain't cheap...

So we left and made use of their On-line Discount a day later, £129.

I've used G.E.M. for years who have a similar sytem. Just fill out the claim form and return and you'll probably get a cheque back before your credit card bill is due.

I've got cover with Barclays and Carol Nash, but not had to use them yet. I was with the RAC previously, but only used 'em once, in 1983!

i have got "free" breakdown cover with lloyds tsb platinum bank card.. total monthly charges of around £17, but this also includes "free" travel insurance, card protection, mobile phone insurance and a couple of other things... breakdown cover includes homestart and bike recovery if needed when on the rod... pretty good i thought... have needed them on average 1x a year for last few years, so has come in handy!
