Hello to all!
as mentioned above I am a total newbie to the motorcycle world as of April just gone. I have done my direct access and gotten myself an 04 plate bandit 600 gsf s.
i wondered if some people might be able to point me in the right direction of a few things;
1st off I need a new back tyre, I cannot figure out what has happened with the one I've got now nor can a friend who has been riding for a a few years now, it seems to have gone really worn on the edges but still got quite a lot left in the centre? Anyway, eh question I have is, the bike currently has Pirelli diablos front and rear and going forward should this be the tyre choice? Someone suggested that it maybe more of a sports tyre and I should be aiming for more of a sports touring tyre? I am by no means a hard rider, just tootle around with the mrs when the weathers decent!
And is is it better to order online and get the tyres fitted or better to visit some where like crofton court and see what they can do as a whole?
2nd I am a chap of the larger variety, in height and width! The bike it completely standard and is there anything I could do with the bike to aid/remedy that? Obviously the mrs likes to hop on the back too.
any advice is appreciated!

Hi jonny, welcome to the forum. Those pirelli diablos are a really good tyre. If youve just got the bike, the reason for the ragged edges might be that the last owner fitted some tyres that had been used on a track day, Or he/she used the bike on a trackday and spanked the edges. Ragged edges wont hurt the tyres as they are designed for this kind of use. A couple of things worth looking at though are A. your tyre pressures B. that your wheel alignment is correct and C. that there is no play in your wheel bearings If these three things are in order, odds are, there is nothing wrong with your bike set up. Teesside Bikers has a number of site sponsors who will offer you some discount on a replacement set of tyres if you think yours are really goosed. Have a look in the sponsors area. welcome again

I've tried both avenues, and my answer is that for the few pounds you might save doing the online route, the ease and expert support from someone like Crofton Court is always the better option. Besides, if you want, Steve at Crofton court will remove the wheels and do everything for you for a small fee. Maxxis diamonds are a decent tyre for that bike and are at a competitive price too. At this point I'd just like to add that I am in no way affiliated with Crofton court or gain commission from them lol Welcome to the forum

Hi Jonny and welcome to the forum. It sounds like your cranking that bandit over in the bends . If your just tootling around mate and there is plenty of tread left on all except the edges, just carry on with them (tyre pressures aside). If you ride anything like I did when I first started riding, you'll soon wear the centre, or square it off. In terms of a sports touring tyre, I would recommend the pilot road 3's, 4's now available. I have had over 6000 mile out of mine, and still another 1000 or so left in them. Enjoy the forum

I think Lee's got it spot on, sound like they've been used on track, or for some serious scratching. Depending on how much tread is left on the edges (so long as it's 1mm across 3/4 of the tyre it's legal) I'd just keep them on. Obviously if it's really low you're gonna wanna change them because the last thing you want is to be cornering on a wet road with a bald tyre! Stick a picture up, might be your best bet for more info if you want it, just don't take our word as gospel and try to sue if we deem them fine. Ultimately it's the users responsibility to ensure the motorcycle is safe to be on the road (just to cove our backs... I can't afford to go to court ) Those tires are held in high regard by people of a quicker nature than myself, but for a Bandit I'd go for a sports touring tyre, plenty of threads on here to give advice on that. Pilot Road 4's (more sports touring based than the 3's, and better wet grip) or Metzeler Interact Z8's (I ran these myself and found them to be excellent), or any other dual compound tyres (harder wearing, so better for going 2-up) but they are pricey. Like Hornut said Maxxis Diamonds are decent too, and a good price, for the average rider. Crofton Court charged me £20 to fit a tyre ride-in-ride-out, they'll fill it with that puncture goo for a few quid more, some places (not sure about Crofton Court) will fit them to loose wheels for cheaper, if you can get them off and take them in via other transport. Alternatively there's National Bike Tyres in Newton Aycliffe they worked out cheapest for me when I got the Metzeler's on including sourcing the tyres. I believe they're a site sponsor, too, so mention Teesside Bikers and you might get a few bob knocked off. As for set up; have a look-see in your bike's manual. Mine is set up for someone around 11stone as standard because that's how Aprilia decided to do it, and that works for me. You should be able to adjust the preload, but all the info on how to and when to will be in the manual. One other thing to bear in mind is the angle of your headlight beam when you are taking a pillion, because the extra weight will point it higher than it need be, so you'll be blinding other road users and possibly making it more difficult to see where you're going. Again consult your manual/handbook, that'll tell you how to. Aaaaand, finally, welcome to the forum, buddy

funny thing how some people wont have certain tyres. I've had two spills and both involved Michelins. Pirelli's and Dunlops for going at a lick.. Maxxis sportmax (the bridgestone 020 copy) for touring..all work for me
