HI, I've got a 96 zx6r f3. with a fully charged battery the bike turns over very slowly and then clicks. I've cleaned up the battery terminals and the earth lead where it bolts to the chassis. Any ideas before I start pulling random wires out.....

If its turning over slowly then clicking it sounds like the battery is shagged, if its an old one even if its fully charged it might just be goosed?

A knacked battery could still show 12v but not have the crank amps to turn the bike over. You could try hooking it up to another battery via jump leads and if it fires up you know the battery has shuffled off this mortal coil.

ok, ill try another battery. I've had two optimates on it and neither of those have indicated the battery is knackered. I accept that even new shit goes tits up but the battery is a motobatt( good reputation) and is less than a year old. Going to try that battery now.... No joy with the battery, could of course be the jump leads...

no, the clicking is the fuel pump I think. ive tried shorting across the starter solenoid terminals but nothing. I'm thinking ignition at the moment

Get the sevices of an "expert" auto electrician, they are not that expensive and you might get it going sooner rather than later, Flory's in Middlesbrough are good.

been an owner of a ZX6 when i used to have a duff battery,. it was a pain to get jump leads into the battery terminals to jump the bike off.
as milky and rivercop has said,. if the bike is trying to start and dying,. the battery doesn't have enough ampage to power the bike. try getting your voltmeter onto the battery and reading the amps it is giving out when resting and starting. you should find that the amp will drop to zero upon trying to start the bike.

I had a GPZ600 a few years ago with same symptoms and it turned out the starter motor brushes were worn out, used motor from ebay sorted it.
