Can anyone advise me on what changes I might need to make to the fueling (carbs or air intake) if I were to run a straight through pipe on my ZZR600 streetfighter.
Its a Carbureted 600 inline 4, currently standard, but since its going to be a streetfighter it needs to be ridiculously loud, like offensively loud.

You would need to have it dyno'ed really. If you don't it will run like a brown bag of poop.
An open exhaust wrecks the bikes power curve due to loss of all the back pressure.
Don't think its as easy as tweaking the fuel mix screw.

Straight through pipe would run like a bag of shite, stick an obnoxiously shortly stubby on and go up a few sizes on the main jets, up the idle screw. Should be about right but you would need a dyno to do it really

I'm sure the zzr was the first of the pressurized air box bikes . If so removing it and it's cool forced air intake ducts would have worse effects than a loud pipe . I seem to remember the zzr having a bulbous fuel tank to hide the monstrous air box underneath . Most fighters have open carbs or k and n metal filters on the carbs . I'd stick with ya pressurised air box somehow .
However, street fighters need to be loud . Louder the better.
There's s guy in Middleton St George who's just made a few hand crafted pipes for lads I know . His works impressive at a not rediculous price too . I'll dig out his number .
I seem to recall the zzr having twin silencers , but that may be the 1100 ?
Whichever pipe you use / make take the bike to amr at bellerby afterwards for a spot of rolling road set up.
I haven't seen many zzr fighters so I'm looking forwards to seeing your creation . small headlights and growly face surround at the front ?
The zzr 6 was a pesky thing back in the early 90s, I remember them having performance very close to the 1000s of the same era. For that reason they were vexed back then , but weirdly not anymore .

Playing with main jets is a fine art .
Don't guess at it . Under fueling leads very quickly to Pistons with holes in em . Usually at high rpm and a long way from home .
However , in my opinion and from many years of tinkering and contrary to my earlier post , just stick on summit loud and leave fueling as standard .
Yes it may have flat spots and be 1 or 2 bhp down over what it could be . It may even back fire every now n again and spit out the odd grande flame , is that s bad thing ? Or is it a character traight that's actually worth having ? What's more , unless your competing at motogp level , will you actually notice 1 or 2 bhp missing when it's got over 100 anyway ?
I never did .

Sound WOB advice from MJM. A spark plug colour check is a good indication of the fuel/air mixture. Changed the silencer on a Honda CB125, did a plug check and lifted the needle height to allow more fuel in. As has been mentioned, if the fuel/air mixture is too weak, there is a risk of overheating. Took BOB's Bike to AMR to get it set up correctly using waste gas analysis, (Dyno). The fuel/air mixture was so weak, the guy was surprised it was running at all and had not seized up.

By far the greatest biker on this planet ( apart from Wheelnut ) rides with a silencer . Valentino rossis bike is always quieter than his team mates as he likes his bike quiet so he can hear himself think ( his words not mine ) . His bikes still roooooaaarrr but not ear bursting. Also on present form alone you've got t admit he's not bad at all . So if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me , for sure ciao .

He even leaves it on when using the tyre pump at garages never mind filling up ! Rumour has it that our likeable hero also visited seaton Carew amusements and played on "hang on" motor cycle arcade game in his full regalia .

Here you go Mike, the abomination as it stands.. The idea at the minute is to take it from where it is now to roadworthy without too many expensive mods, but eventually I want: An, R6 rear end (for lightness of course) ZXR400 forks (gold and up-side-down) Would like a different swingarm as the current one looks gash but need to find out what fits Get rid of the stock clocks which I made brackets for to fit at the minute because its easy.. needs a digital dash Paint the lot Conical Air filters look cool Something like that.. should look alright IMO
