My Harley Sportster recently started, at odd times chosen by itself, to 'idle' at 3500 to 4500 rpm!!!
Switching off and re-starting seemed to sort it once. Also, waiting in neutral for it to sort itself (the ECU for the EFI) and go back to normal.
THEN, I searched the Harley V twin forum and found;- switch it on without starting, wait 10 seconds, switch off, wait 10 seconds, repeat another 3 times. Hasn't done it since.
It must trigger some re-set! I think the post/info came from an ex-Harley tech.
