Pulled this off another site, shocking sad story.
Two motorcyclists died and a 12-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries in an horrific crash at a country crossroads.
Police have named the dead riders as Mark James Dossett, 45, from Baildon, and 53-year-old Gordon Thackray, from Ilkley.
The 12-year-old pillion passenger, who has not been identified, suffered multiple injuries and was still in a “serious condition” yesterday, a police spokesman said.
The crash happened at a rural crossroads at Blubberhouses, near Harrogate, at 10.25am on Sunday. One of the men was riding a blue Suzuki machine along Askwith Moor Road from the A59 towards Otley when it collided with the other man’s red Honda motorbike.
They were both heading for the crossroads of Askwith Moor Road, Moor Lane and Snowden Carr Road, when tragedy struck.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene following the crash.
The 12-year-old is believed to have been riding pillion on the back of the Honda, which was travelling from Askwith near Burley-in-Wharfedale.
The young passenger was airlifted by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.
A police spokesman said yesterday: “North Yorkshire Police are seeking witnesses following a serious road traffic collision at Blubberhouses.
“As a result of the collision, both riders of the motorcycles received fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“The 12-year-old pillion passenger remains in a serious condition in Leeds General Infirmary with multiple injuries.
His condition is currently described as stable.”
Police and firefighters were quickly on the scene and wreckage from the bikes was strewn across the road.
The scene of the accident overlooks Fewston Reservoir, a well-known beauty spot surrounded by rural roads popular with motorcyclists.
Anyone with information about the fatal accident, or who saw the bikes before the crash, should contact PC David Seavers of North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060247.
