Are the drives dead, or are they still showing up? If the former, you are into hugely expensive territory. If the latter, you could try this www.pcinspector.de/Default.htm?language=1For business, get them set up with a stripped or redundant hot spare RAID array or similar to prevent this occurring again. It's slightly more expensive than just a couple of drives, but offers a whole load of additional protection in the case of drive failure.

There's also these fellas www.seriousbit.com/They provide a limited usage copy of the software. Once mine runs out I will be buying this as it is very good (have recovered SD cards aplenty with this). All depends if it's just a corrput disc or if the disc is actually screwed.

Been a while since I've heard updates on either but.... DONT go to PC shop at the top of Portrack Lane (bad personal experience) Used to hear decent reports of Yarm computers for repairs - if they are still there! Found these guys in Stokesley: www.hdforensics.co.uk/contact_us.php

We use PC Doctor, a guy called Ian who lives at Ingleby Barwick, very good service.

Are the three drives from one pc or several? 1 HDD is out of a PC,. which went down over the weekend,. i have took the HDD out the PC and tried putting it in a USB caddy to see if i could save the data,. in windows 7 it sometimes picks up sometimes doesn't. i can see files there but after about 5 mins locks up windows explorer and have to then turn usb caddy off and windows explorer works fine. the other 2 are out of a Freecom NAS type drive which connects to the network. 1 of them went a while ago,. and well wasn't such an important thing since i did have back up on the computer aswell,. this one was accidently dropped on the floor,. was situated ontop of a worktop where the washer was in the garage (the freezer was there so it didn't fall off) and then i moved out taking my mams freezer and well the rest is distory as you prob guessed. the other one, was a quick fix to when the first one broke,. and it will read in a PC through HDD caddy,. but comes up asking to format. (which i refuse to do, although i know even if you format, the stuff is still saved somewhere on HDD) and if/when it doesnt ask me to format it will make windows explorer hang and once again have to disconnect the power which then you see the folders show up then the windows explorer to close as the HDD ain't avaliable no more. and thanks may give that on in stokesly a ring after trying the downloads you have provided.

You now have to make a decision as to how much the data is worth to you but before you try anything expensive try fitting the drive as a slave rather than through a usb caddy. If no joy and the data is valuable we use a firm that charge, iirc, £300 quid to retrieve the data. It's done through mail order - you send the disk off to them along with another, good, hard drive and they recover from the bad to the good. If they can't get the data they refund the money. Let me know if you want to look further and I'll pm you their details.

The last one that will still read in the caddy will likely have a damaged FAT table. Run one of those utilities I linked earlier (the second one) - it should be able to recover/rebuild the FAT table on the drive to allow you to copy off the data.
