I only have limited experience with bike dealers / shops as I do my own servicing and almost always buy bikes privately. However, I do think that, as with cars, you can get better service at a bettter price from smaller independent shops.
I always use Frontline for spares and MOTs and can't recommend them highly enough - proper old-fashioned service and enthusiasm and ever-helpful and friendly.
You could buy spares from t'internet, but I prefer to support local business if I can as we're in risk of losing them. In any case, Frontline's prices are usually about the same anyway.
Many years ago I applied for - and got - a job at David Sykes Superbikes, but he changed his mind (without bothering to tell me) 2 days before I was due to start. I'd been on the dole for quite a while and had to spend cash I didn't have for new togs as well! Needless to say, I tend not to shop there.
