Carb Problems!!!

Hey Guys,

Been a while since iv been on, a combination of not riding and working, fired the bike up today, started orite, got half way down the 66 thrashing it, and it started to splutter and died, its the second time its done it now, itll start agen after leaving it for 10 mins, but this time it dint strt, it chugs over with full choke but not firing up, anyone know much about carbs?

i feel your pain man im having a hard time with my bike at the moment.. every few days i have to replace something or fix something haha.. i dont know much about carbs.. but the tb family always have good advice for you

Same thing happened to me a couple year ago back when I was still on a 125, did the same thing, took it home, Lee and Merrykoala came round, took tank off, dismantled the tap, cleaned it, put it back together and everything was hunky dory I think... As far as I can remember anyway (I have a really bad memory!)

Sounds like some crap gettin into the jets and blocking them, a decent addative to fuel would be a start, Forty gas treatment very good but expensive about 10.00 on ebay and 16.00 from garage.
I may be wrong but its a start to get to the problem

I would suggest s strip down and investigation before applying any kind of treatment. Does sound like there is some crap in there - nothing is usually good enough to get rid of that other than a good clean.

yeah iv been meaning to strip it down for a while, iv worked on injection engines but never carb lol

took the tank off this evening to look at the fuel filter and pump, ther seem to b particles of rust in the filter, could this hav nething to do with fuel starvation?

If its been sat for a while could it not just be a bit of moisture causing some rust?

Right, so filled the tank with a full bottle of Fotre Gas treatment, and shell V power, after a few turns of the thorttle is started, but hesistant on idle but smoothed out after leaving it running, took it for a quick blast round the road, and in second gear at high rpm i could feel it struggling again, dint wanna push it home so jst cruised back to the house, last thing I'm gonna try is changing the spark plugs before having to strip the carbs which im not lookin forward to.

Sounds like gunk - probably, from the symptoms, gung in and around the idler jet and the main jet.
