Just fitted the new can on the daytona, and im loving the sound of it, especially with no baffle. Whats the worst the police could do to you if the baffle wasnt fitted, but is carried with you and could be refitted if stopped? Am i right in thinking its just a straight on the spot £30 fine? Are they likely to let you get away with just refitting there and then with a slap on the wrist? Is it common for people to get stopped and fined for this?

I don't think that they do anything for noisy exhausts anymore as the sound limit nowadays is 'at the mot testers discretion '.
However an incredibly noisy pipe ( which we tested on the vexed thread and found them to he not ) would cause attention to be drawn and mr or mrs or ms plod may then gave a closer look at your tyres , lights , size of number plate etc. Noisy pipes draw attention because even when doing only 30 mph they sound like you're doing 186,000 miles per second aka the speed of light !
Insurance is often not informed of 'performance enhancing mods' ( imho ) so if the plod are greeted with real attitude they may then also explore this route , so make sure your insurance are aware of the exhaust too . Then everyone is a happy bunny !

I thought they had to be stamped with a bs mark. If not, or it has 'Not for road use' or similar on it then is it a possible £60 fpn (no points)?

AS long as they are not marked 'Not for road use' then the pipes areallowed these days - as Mike said, the MOT was changed a few years back to make the noise limit more discretionary. However, I think the legal limit of 90 dB is still in effect, so technically they could get arsey with you and issue a defect notice. Again, as Mike says, they probably wont (dont be too certain about N Yorks plod though), but they will likely pay too much attention to you if you arte very noisey.

Thats how it used to be but plenty of folk were polishing out the "not" in the not for road use. Leaving for road use ! Ive never seen a plod with a noise meter either so the 90db level could never ne checked . There is a db app on the iPhone though !

Well theres no ' Not for road use' marks on it, so its all legal in that respect, but i think it will be over the 90 db mark at full chat. The rest of the bike is fully legit, so theres nothing else they can pick on if im pulled. Think i might just leave it without the baffle, but carry it along, and if i get told off a couple of times for it then ill baffle it. The noise is addictive tho!

They cant actually do you for it on the spot either is how it reads but i could be wrong, they have to take it to an approved area meeting an iso standard to actually test and issue the 30 quid fine.
Not in the same league i know but i run mine without a baffle, its great compared to the normal sound but you do get quite a bit of attention in towns

Unfortunatly its bolted in using 6 allan bolts, so the chances of it being nicked are remote! Incidently mrmvman, thats the tail i want tidying, to loose the indicators, into an intergrated tail light, raise the exhaust up, and place the plate further back

How small was your plate ? 7x5 mate but the font on the letters were smaller, so had to put a 8x6 on on it.
