you can get a special gasket remover, its comes out like foam and smells like ammonia, works really well at softening them up, if you have a gentle hand a sharp flat bladed screw driver or stanley blade wis also good for prizing them off the casing.
if you cant be bothered with the remover spray, wd40 or de greaser works also

right hand cover gasket replaced, oil leak plugged. result. ;D
