i was talking to someone about this last week, basically using the internet as a trunk backbone. Yes it will work, but its taking the RF element away. The whole point in amateur radio is that when everything else fails (due to some form of catastrophy) long distance radio should still work. point to point. Each to their own though i suppose i dont know where you find the time tbh

ok, i collect the radio tomorrow from near manchester. Kenwood TS 850 SAT chaindrive, ocelot, andy, what do you know about antenna radials? I also need a 13.8v DC input with a 25-30 Amp load capacity.. not the easiest thing to find.. other stuff to buy, feeder, balun, miles of copper wire, mounting insulators, MC50 Microphone, connectors, feck... this is getting expensive i'll have to dig up one of my cash stashes

Nothing wrong with the good old Jumbos Kev. I still have my Cobra 148, Avanti Sigma IV and PDL II along with a nice little kilowatt boot

Palstar PS30-M is the PSU I have used for about 15 years. Been faultless. Have one bad thing to say about them, the fan is noisy as hell, easy fix though.

I picked up a 20a power supply with the radio, bearing in mind I'm gonna have limited tx power initially, it ll do for the time being. Coax is my current research topic. I want low loss that's priced fairly

Ok bit of an update. I got hold of 25m of westflex 103 coax, I've put two runs up. One goes to an 80m sky loop antenna via a balun, the other goes to an 18' Hy-gain broadband vertical, I've also ran a half wave vertical wire for 10meter band. The set, timers and antenna are all earthed to a spike. The loop tunes flat as low as 1.5mHz, happy with that. Forward power once tuned at 80m is around 125W, result.
