Yes its retro and considered by some a bit geeky, but seeinjg as though ive got 22 yrs in telecoms (mainly radio) im gonna have a go at the licence
Ocelot, chaindrive and andymuzza all hold the licence..does anyone else?
Following the advice of Andy, ive possibly got a transciever lined up.. A Kenwood TS-850 SAT.
The bands or frequencies that interest me most are
3.5-3.8 MHz
7 MHz
14 MHz
21 MHz and
28 Mhz
Im not interested in going any higher or lower.
So, antenna choice.
Remembering that the neighbours are a bit stuck up around Ingleby barwick ive decided that I only want two discreetish antennas
Both antennas must cover the 80M -10M spectrum
One vertically polarised for local working short range
0-1000km +
and one Horizontally for long range
1000km -10,000 Km +
Ive been giving a lot of thought towards Antenna choice.
After much research I was initially looking at this
hy gain hy tower which is arguably the best thing out there.
However, at 50ft, its a massive bit of kit.
next i looked at the hy tower junior but after measuring the size of my house, even this is enourmous though, and wind over 40mph requires guy ropes.. it aint pretty either despite being pretty good value for money..
Which leaves me with this option
the AV18 VS 80 mph wind proof and a snip at 18 feet in length. The current plan is to mount it close to plastic guttering so that just five or 6 feet is above the roof.
Insulated plastic clips drilled and plugged into the brickwork should keep it nice and secure along 2/3rds of its length.
Ideas or thoughts on this choice?
The horizontal antenna...
Its got to be discreet, Im currently thinking about
This
But will it give me range greater than 5000Km ? its an omni but of course it wouldnt take too much to turn it into a rhombic.. hmmm
