Without this being derogatory.... If you're not confident or competent leave to a professional. It's a specialist subject... Yea thats what i thought too. The guy from Weardale racing seems pretty decent so i might have pop down sometime and see him

Is it correct that the only options/adjustments with the forks on an X11 is to swap the fork springs and/or change the oil.

I know people are trying to help you to do it yourself, but in fairness, you asked for any info on who could do it for you, not do it yourself. Susp is technical. I wouldn't know where to start and wouldn't attempt it. Know how to ride it, wash it, lube it etc... But that's where it ends.

Will be interesting to see what recommendations the suspension specialist comes up with.
Which make of springs, what grade oil & how this will effect the handling of the bike.
Perhaps the Honda R&D department have got it wrong.
Having played about with the front forks on the XJ650, trying different size spacers on top of the springs (pre-load), using alternative grade oil (damping), returned everything back to the factory settings & just rode it the way it was meant to be, Yamaha know more about suspension than I do.

David, nobody is saying that Honda R & D dept have got it wrong. Similarly Yamaha, so why would you mess on with different size spacers etc.... The original post asked for a recommendation for someone who could do a suspension set up, not instructions on how to do it yourself..... The clue was in the question...

Suspensions are a specialist subject when it come to it. However, I do feel that if you have some skills and a bit of common sense it can be done.
DIY is how you learn, splashing cash you won't learn a thing. As long as you can be methodical, give it a bash. If you are in doubt get it to the shop.
Best of luck matey.

Whether taking the DIY approach or not, IMO, having an understanding of the subject is a good place to start. Checking the SAG is a none invasive task. During an MOT test, the suspension would be checked for it's damping effect.

You answered the initial thread on page 1 with a good response but then seemed to go on a mission on DIY...

I adjusted my suspension recently by removing it altogether and replacing it with bamboo.
If it's good enough for Asian scaffolding it's good enough for my Asian bike I thought.
How right I was.
It works a treat, except for the bloody hoards of Pandas I encounter trying to take a nibble out of my preload!!!!
