Tried to buy a new Suzuki B King from them recently but they were miles out on the deal. Was about to purchase one from a dealer in Barnsley when my old friend Russell Armstrong, of the late Armstrongs Motorcycles in Linthorpe Rd, suggested I give Derek at David Sykes in Peterlee a call. A result as they matched the Barnsley deal. The difference between the two local dealers was amazing.

Gary is great once you get to know him, but always ask for Peter when dealing with buying anything. When we hold the Ian Watson Supporters "Do" they are extreemly generous and give us stock worth up to £200 - £300 for our auction!

been in a few times to look at buying a new bike, no one seems interested in helping you out, gary in shop is a very helpful guy, better than the sales men in there, me think they have monopoly in area so sod you all, yes are expensive, there is always triumph at newkey, anyway time to move away from jap bikes

The more you buy off them the friendlier they get.
Used to use them all the time for parts / servicing, but for my personal reasons I go elsewhere now.

i have used them a couple of times seem ok as you say don't seem interested. but on the other hand if i was looking for a bike/car i hate it when the sales person comes up to you and asks if you want any help,.. i would prefer that i approach them first but that is personal preference

I'm amazed they are still trading. Majority of other dealers (Whites/P&F/Armstrongs) have gone to the wall recently but Tillstons keep on going. Every time I go in there, no-one seems to be buying and there are few browsing. I've tried buying new off them previously, and they were 15% more expensive than the next Kawasaki dealer, even on a deal. They couldnt match but could get within £100 once I told them what I'd had. Needless to say, I went elsewhere. Definitely a market for a quality dealer in the Teesside area which puts customer service at the top of their agenda. York Triumph or York Suzuki have been much more approachable and helpful in the past, offering tests without pressuring to buy, free coffees and reasonably chatty salespersons on the shop floor. I notice that the fella who once worked at White's is now in Tillstons and that can only be a good thing. He's always been good for a chat and to give advice when looking at changing bikes.

Peter has looked after me very well over the years, Ive bought 3 new superbikes off them. He lent me a GSXR750 for a track day which I then bought and just last month he fitted resistors on my indicators and a lighting kit and wouldnt let me pay! So I have nothing but praise. I guess its how you find them on the day but I dont really go anywhere else as they look after me.

I have bought all my new bikes (4) from them and a couple of secondhand ones over a period of 20 odd years. They have always given me the best deal, matching anything else I could get nationwide on the new bikes. They are always friendly and Peter and Garry always remember you even if it has been a few years since you were last in there. I have always paid less than the price tag price on gear bought there too. I think they are a good bunch. I would never pay over the odds for anything from them though and do shop around before going to see them. If they match or better the deal then they get the business, if they don't then I go elsewhere. That doesn't happen very often though.

Brought (bought?) my first northern bike from them a few years ago new, but it died on it's first ride out on a Saturday, they came and collected it and gave it it's last rites and offered me a new bike or different model/manuf.
They looked after me very well but i just feel a bit unwelcome when I go there, I have to say it's a fine line between ignore, welcome attention and intrusiveness, shop in Leeds gives me a coffee, introduces him/herself and leaves me to get on with it, same would be good.
The bod in the clothing bit is brill, always helpfull, knows his stuff and pushes for early delivery.
I think the bikes are (more) expensive but Tilstons have no competion here so can do what they want.

I have had new and second hand bikes from them over the years and have know Peter since he was on the tools ( yes he has had his hands dirty) and Bob, Garry and Trev and Bill and I always have a good chat with them when I pop in , I have n`t had any complaints but i understand when there are busy the chat can be very quick and some time just a hello , But I can live with that
