ive said this to many, i know your reaction is to brake when anything jumps out usualy landing the rider on the bottom, i just hit things head on ! dogs cats anything , they and we have a better chance if you do that , get your head down behind the screen and whack them! True i remember when i used to gun the VFR up to lord stones a couple of years ago, I had our lass on the back and a pheasant ran out. its mad how slow it went i remember thinking about what would happen if i braked hard. so i just tucked in and hit it full on in my face, then up over and into our lasses face! It could have ended a lot worse if i'd of tried the RSPCA friendly method i got a crow hit me , got me right in the throat, but again i didnt brake and hit it square on , kept contol of the bike and gently slowed and stopped on the hard shoulder of the a1m to see what damage it had done to me ,

A good rule of thumb is that if you couldn't eat it in one sitting then hitting it is best avoided. absolutely and well said, great road but can catch many out, start of the season so many are rusty, and everyone should check tyres, presures, brakes, etc. Things do change and you don't want to find out whats wrong when your tipping it into a bend after braking! Check out your bike! It could save you life ! The problem's a lot more likely to be in our brains than it is with the bike.

People say I ride slow. People take the p>ss. I really don't care. Ride within your limits, stay alive. If you want to be a hero, take a track day.

"The motorcyclist, who is from Driffield, East Yorkshire, was riding a silver Honda CBR bike from the Stokesley direction.
Near the junction with Laskill on a left-hand bend, he collided with a blue Kia Sorento which was travelling in the opposite direction. "
What does this tell us? too fast into a left hander...got the line wrong...ran out wide and into the path of a big truck. The main reason why i wont ride this road on a weekend. imagine if you were travelling in the same direction as the truck 20 metres ahead of it... this guy would have killed you.

i hope the guy comes through, at 62 i find it highly unlikely he was a head down ass up rider, i guess we have to wait to see exactly what happened and what went wrong , was the 4x4 driver on his mobile, reading a map, cutting corners , caravan got into a weave ? these things we dont know

Not to pre-judge anything here but I agree with Lee.

I dont think lee is pre judging, i think he is just pointting out the fact there a lot of nutters on that helmesly road that fancy them selves as the next rossi. problem is if your out sensibly riding it could be one of them that runs wide and clips you off, and there isnt the training in the world thats going to stop that
prevention is better than cure again!?

Many years ago, I was clipped off my bike by a scooter running wide on a left-hand bend. On a right-hand bend I try to keep to the left-hand side of my lane and don't cut to the centre of the road, unless I can see there is nothing coming in the opposite direction.

The best rule of thumb has already been discussed....
Ride within your own limits and ability..... There are very few of us out there who will ever ride any of our bikes beyond the bikes ability.
If you don't know what your own limits are, shall we say that if you run wide on exits from bends or have to brake in bends then you're riding beyond them.
Stay safe out there Guys.
