Just on my way home from work this morning and my chain came off. Pulled up at the side of the road, put the bike on its centre-stand, threaded the chain back over the rear whatsit (yes, this is the level of my technical know-how!) and carried on as usual.
1) What caused it to come off? I sprayed it last week with Muc-Off chain cleaner and then lube. Is this part of the problem?
2) How do I avoid it happening again?
Please be gentle! When it comes to maintainance, I wash it and polish it and can just about screw bits off and replace them. Anything more technical than that gets sent to Pioneer at Norton!

What caused it to come off ? answer - the peoples republic of china. how do I avoid it happening again ? answer - buy a Honda.

Sounds like it's way to slack . This is a newish bike - why ? I had a chinese scooter that didn't last more than 6 months with spurious problems one after the other, until I was so sick of it being so unreliable I gave it away for nothing. Sounds like similar experiences to mine starting.

Chains on some bikes are made out of very low quality chain and they stretch all the time , hence need a lot if adjusting

Far too slack if it came off, Is the back wheel tight? Could it of come forward on the adjusters, are they tight?

Thanks to those who took time to post constructive help. It does look like the adjusters are set well forward. It's due in for its 4k service so I'll just get them to do it while it's in. Of course, this problem is unique to Chinese made bikes, isn't it?

Of course, this problem is unique to Chinese made bikes, isn't it? In the first 4k miles of a brand new vehicle - probably yes. Not so much 'probably' as 'in your opinion based on your own singular experience'. We've had this debate before. The motorcycling press are of the opinion that yes, just like the 'Jap Crap' when it first came to our shores, there were issues with Chinese motorbikes, especially with the free-for-all way they were imported and assembled etc., but they are improving rapidly. As regards my own bike, I've never adjusted the chain (hence the post seeking advice) and it's coming close to it's 4k service (previous one was 2k, the distances are doubling each time, next one is 8k). I would assume that it's something that gets examined during the service(?). Maybe I should be asking the service agent if it was done last time and make sure that it is this time?

Far too much like hard work! Seriously, though, I should invest in one, if I'm honest.

Remember though, that shaft drives are no where near as efficient at transferring power to the back wheel as a chain drive though, ( that is one that doesn't fall off ). That is why sportier bikes use them and you never see them in races. Also they are much heavier than chain units.
