The Filter was last replaced 6,000 miles ago. It shows how dirty they get and the benefit of replacing them. Or buy a K&N and get the filter cleaning kit

Excellent next day service from Wemoto, new shim arrived today. Removed 2.60mm and replaced with 2.55mm shim, (0.05mm = 0.002"), gap was 0.0045", now 0.007". Spot on as clearances should be between 0.006" & 0.008". All back together now, ready for a trip to AMR at Bellerby, hopefully next week, to have carbs. balanced and compressions checked.

Simon spent the best part of 2 hours on BOB's Bike. It definitely needed setting up again following the cylinder head work and service etc., was running too lean.
Once again, I'm very happy with the service provided by AMR for the price paid.

Washed BOB's Bike today and obviously fired it up from cold.
It started well and the throttle response is very crisp from idle, now that the mixtures are richer.
Setting each carb. up individually using waste gas analysis seems to have worked very well.

Shirley has been rummaging in the loft today and she came across these photographs. This was BOB's Bike, brand new, in March 1981.

This photograph was taken in October 1990, prior to having the frame etc. powder coated. The Bike had done 15,000 miles. Job done, Dunlop Arrowmax tyres and red plug caps just don't look right, not too keen on the tax disc holder either.

Lubricated, Choke, Throttle and Clutch cables using a hydraulic cable oiler.
Didn't need to remove cables from the bike, access only required to one end.

For awhile now, I've not been happy with the performance of the forks, they were making an awful knocking noise, so decided to bite the bullet and do something about it. The steering head bearings (ball & cup) were also not smooth in the straight ahead position, a tapered roller bearing conversion was on the cards. With the help of GRM we set to dismantling the front end. The forks stanchions were found to be slightly bent, new ones on order from Wemoto. Hopefully the parts will arrive tomorrow and be re-assembled on Friday. Now, how does this lot go back together.

With the help of GRM, the front end of the bike has been re-built today and guess what, it's fixed, no nasty noises.

NRP motorcycle carburettor repairs specialistFollowing the recent running problems, gave NRP a call, they offer a complete service to clean & overhaul carbs. Might be worth looking into if any further problems are encountered.

Great service from Yamaha UK, having started the last page in the original service log book, contacted Yamaha UK who have sent a new service log book with a gift of a neck tube all FOC, can't fault that for service.
